Village Sponsorship Programme

This is a simple story but it’s not about one child, one family, or even on village. It’s about 300 million people in the world today, who need help because they are affected by avoidable blindness caused by refractive error or low vision (or the need for a strong pair of glasses or other magnifying device to see).
Experience tells us that when we work with people to build long term solutions we can reduce poverty now and, importantly, in the future.
Wherever we’re called, we work closely with local health authorities to build services within existing health care systems. But where there are no services, we create programs to address the need. We keep working until the programs we create, and the care we provide, can be sustained by the community.
Our work is about building eye care systems. ICEE provides optometrists and skilled professionals to train local health workers to become eye care workers, and eye care technicians to make the glasses the communities need. Then we provide equipment and the necessary means to support the service.
So far we’ve delivered eye care services, training and education in 40 countries. Today we’re working in South Africa, Malawi, Uganda, Nigeria, China, South East Asia, the Western Pacific and with Aboriginal communities in Australia.
You can help. With a monthly donation of as little or as much as you like, to the ICEE Village Sponsorship Programme, you will be helping ICEE enable communities to sustain their own healthy vision.
