World Sight Day in Durban, South Africa

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), an eastern province of South Africa, has learned why ‘Seeing is truly Believing’ at the launch of a project to improve the vision of one million people by 2010. The sponsorship by Standard Chartered Bank to Giving Sight to Africa in KZN, was announced at the launch on World Sight Day.

The sponsorship was awarded to project partners, ICEE and the Department of Health, KZN involves a comprehensive eye care framework which provides the community with access to eye care services - examinations, provision of spectacles and referrals for other eye conditions.

The program is a model which, once piloted successfully within KZN, can then be replicated in other provinces and possibly other countries.
